Desktop Devotional: Five

I Corinthians 10:23 is the scripture the Lord gave me today. I’ve been struggling with a decision and this is what He writes:

“All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.”

I believe God is preaching to me about standards. Just because we are given permission to do a certain thing (legally, financially, or otherwise), does not mean that the action will be encouraging. Sometimes, people in our own circle of life whom look up to the Christ in us can be discouraged if we make a decision out of God’s timing, albeit the decision is profitable for us! Let’s face it family, the walk of faith for a believer in Christ is not a selfish one. But, this walk with Christ also “builds others up” as they observe our life and the Christ that should be motivating us to make decisions!? Take a look at this:

“So then let us pursue what leads to peace and mutual edification”

Romans 14:19

When God permits you to do something, it not only edifies you, but others that you mentor in your walk with Christ. This is also proven by looking at Romans 15:2: “Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” Finally, I Corinthians 6:12 that reads “Everything is permissible for me, but not beneficial.” In my humble translation, just because I am allowed to do certain things doesn’t mean that it is time to take action on the opportunity! Wait on God’s timing.

Also, just because I am allowed to do something shouldn’t be my motivation for doing that thing! As believers in Christ, God has the ultimate “signoff” on what motivates us! Did you know that the God in you is what draws others who are watching your life? Yes, it amazed me too! This is how the Kingdom of Heaven is manifest here on Earth. Check the Lords’ prayer out when it says, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10). The only way this can manifest practically is by the spirit of God that you allow to illuminate in your earthen body as you walk among men and women daily who are looking for Christ! This world is thirsty for our Lord and Savior, so allow Him to “show up” in you! “And I, if I be lifted up from the Earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32).

That is why we should remain connected to Christ spiritually as to build our relationship with Jesus. Saints, although you “can” because you’ve been given the opportunity to do so, that should not have power over you making decisions that could discourage others as to be a “scar” in their life! Your testimony and walk with the Lord is all you have to impact this world for Jesus.
